RODA Training academy strives to provide training to mobile crane operators within the African continent which utilizes technological advancements such as simulation training, computerized skills and aptitude (psychometric) testing coupled with theoretical lectures and practical “hands on” training which is of an international standard.

Our courses cater to both novice crane operators (no experience) seeking licencing, as well as veteran crane operators seeking licence renewal.

Simulator Training

We pride ourselves in providing employers and students with an alternative to the outdated training practices and services which are offered by existing training institutions. As such, RODA Training academy has developed training simulators which place the prospective operator behind the controls of a simulated crane. This allows for practical training to take place in an environment which is safe and controlled, and for students to get fully accustomed with “crane physics” before being placed behind the controls of a real crane.

Psychometric Testing

We have developed a skills and aptitude (psychometric) test which has been tailored specifically for the crane industry. The test evaluates motor responses as well as innate abilities which are related to the effective operation of a crane. Students are required to pass this test before they may begin with the course. This ensures that the candidate has the natural skills required for crane operation, while at the same time ensuring that the candidate or employer of said candidate do not spend resources on a course for which the applicant may not be physically suited for.

Theoretical Lectures

RODA Training Academy has lecture rooms dedicated to theoretical training. In these theoretical lessons, a number of learning aids such as training videos, group activities, replica models, interactive range diagrams and load charts are used by facilitators who are experienced within the crane industry and who understand that individuals possess unique learning styles. The course is presented in English, however, candidates may request for a course with Zulu annotations in order to aid comprehension. All of our courses are TETA accredited (TETA15-594). Our facilitators are also all ETDP-SETA accredited.

Practical Training

Over and above the aforementioned services, RODA Training Academy supplies candidates with hands on experience behind the controls of a real crane during our extensive practical assessments. In so doing, the candidate is progressively supported through each learning phase from their initial introduction to operating a crane via theoretical lectures and simulation technology, skills screening through the use of computerized psychometric testing, through to practical application and assessment whereby the candidate is required to put into use the knowledge which he/she has obtained through the operation of an actual crane in a practice as well as examination setting.
